CT Folk’s Tour des Farms is a day-long, 25-mile leisure bicycle ride on Sunday, August 1 to local farms, greenhouses, orchards, and historic sites in the greater New Haven area. The route winds through lightly travelled scenic country roads, rolling hills, pleasant residential streets and a few miles on a paved linear park through Hamden, North Haven, and Cheshire. At each stop along the road, riders will be entertained by a Connecticut-grown musician.

Connecticut is home to an exciting crop of independent singer-songwriters. We’ve chosen Brian Dolzani, Kate Callahan, Frank Critelli, and John Cimabriello to entertain riders at each farm stop with their unique blend of contemporary folk & roots music.

Caravan of Thieves

At the Tour’s end, riders and non-riders alike are invited to an outdoor evening concert at Hamden’s Miller Complex (2901 Dixwell Ave.)  featuring all four singer-songwriters, and crowned by a set by our special guests: the high-energy, gypsy-swingster band the Caravan of Thieves.

The Tour des Farms offers a unique opportunity to discover and enjoy local food sources, hidden green spaces and local musicians at the easy-going pace of a leisurely bike ride. Plenty of rest stops at the farms will make the ride enjoyable for most riders over the age of twelve. Best of all, any fresh produce that cyclists have purchased during the day will be transported by volunteers back to the Tour’s ending point and refrigerated until the end of the day.

Pre-register to take advantage of discounted fees, reserve an event t-shirt and get five dollars in “farm bucks” to spend at the retail outlets on the Tour.

Proceeds from the Tour des Farms and the evening benefit concert featuring Caravan of Thieves will support the educational activities of CT Folk. CT Folk, a non-profit, primarily volunteer organization, is dedicated to traditional and contemporary roots music and to caring for the earth. CT Folk is the presenter of the annual Connecticut Folk Festival and Green Expo, the largest folk festival in the state, as well as the First Fridays concert series that runs from October through May.

 Artist Bios

Caravan of Thieves. Stretching the parameters of acoustic swing, Caravan of Thieves has been winning ecstatic praise for their unique brand of gypsy flavored songwriting and their high intensity show. The vocal harmonizing, acoustic guitar spanking husband and wife duo Fuzz and Carrie have extended their family to include fiery violinist Ben Dean and Brian Anderson, a double bass madman, to complete their colorful vision. The quartet produces layers of Beatlesque vocals, driving rhythms, satirical, dramatic song writing and an overall circus of sound. The Thieves have performed at modern folk’s most respected venues, including the Philly Folk Festival, Clearwater Festival, World Café Live, Club Passim, and the CT Folk Festival and Green Expo. caravanofthieves.com

Is the route available? Might be fun to do anytime, not just on the 1st. Always looking for something fun and scenic.

We’re hoping you’ll join us on Aug. 1, but if you can’t make it, email us after the ride (info@ctfolk.com) and we’ll give you some suggestions for that area.
